Removing rust from tools without caustic chemicals

I Had a rusty old tool that my dad gave to me so I thought I would geve this a shot. I mix 1 part molasses with 9 parts water in a container, then soak the rusty items in it for  about 3 months. 2015-01-17 15.21.51.jpg

This is what I started with...

Nice work @Super_D.

White vinegar was also a popular choice for cleaning up rusty tools in this discussion from a while back - https://www.workshop.com.au/t5/Outdoor-Living/Best-way-to-clean-up-rusty-tools/m-p/9425

Re: To remove Rust from tools without using caustic chemicals

Works yes but it costs $$$ and takes months. Try citric acid powder. Cheaper and takes just hours to get the same result. Non-toxic, in fact you can drink it if ou need some vitamin C. Put a couple of handfuls in a bucket of hot water.

Re: To remove Rust from tools without using caustic chemicals

Citric acid does not contain Vit. C

Re: To remove Rust from tools without using caustic chemicals

I heard that coke works well too.
