How to use to bolt RackIt 400kg shelves to concrete floor?

Just ordered the 400kg RackIt shelving and want to bolt to the garage floor... can you let me know the best type of bolts/screws pls?

The shelving units are:

H: 2,136mm W: 2,250mm Depth: 530mm (2 bays)

H: 2,136mm W: 1,600mm Depth: 530mm (1 bay)

Re: Which fixings to use to bolt RackIt 400kg shelves to concrete floor

Hello @curlygrl39

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about Rack It shelves.

For anchoring a heavy-duty Rack It uprights to a cement floor, the best options are concrete screw anchors (AnkaScrews) or wedge anchors (like the DynaBolt), or for superior strength, a chemical anchoring system (Ramset UltraFix). The specific type, diameter, and length should be determined by consulting the Rack It manufacturer's specifications and potentially a professional to ensure compliance, especially if you are trying to comply with local building codes.

Anchor Types:

Concrete Screw Anchors (AnkaScrew😞 These are highly recommended as they are less invasive to the concrete and are fully removable if the racking needs to be relocated.

Wedge Anchors (DynaBolts😞 This is the most common and cost-effective type used for pallet racking and heavy-duty applications in solid concrete. They offer immense holding power but are considered a permanent fixture (must be cut if removed). A typical size used for this type of application is a 12mm x 65mm or 12mm x 75mm anchor.

Chemical Anchors (ChemSet UltraFix😞 For the strongest possible connection, especially if you have concerns about the concrete's condition or need a highly durable bond. The adhesive creates a bond that is often stronger than the concrete itself, effectively preventing pull-out. These fixings will need to be cut as well should you decide to move your shelves.

My personal recommendation would be to use the Chemset UltraFix as it does not pre-load the concrete with stress and its chemical bonding agent ensures a solid grip that prevents it from being pulled out. I propose looking at the Ramset M10 x 130mm Galvanised Anchor Stud - 4 Pack.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @AlanM52 for their recommendations.

Re: Which fixings to use to bolt RackIt 400kg shelves to concrete floor

Hi @curlygrl39,

This is what I did with shelving.

Base frames 70x45 with castors, front locking - no safety issues.

Some of my thoughts:

No warranty issues.

Easy to relocate.

Must move-

Brick garage/concrete: Issues with water ingress and/or rising damp.

Colorbond/concrete: Bottom sheet rising corrosion, drip edge not kept clear.

Rodents requiring barrier installation.

Cheers

Hi @curlygrl39

I think @EricL has already done a great job of providing a range of solutions. Chemset fastening will offer the strongest however, does require very particular methods to ensure the chemical bond is created otherwise Ramset understandably will not honour any future issue. Things like;

1. Holes need to be made with 4-cut SDS bits using a pneumatic hammer drill. These bits create very clean tube-like holes.

2. Correct depth and diameter

3. The holes need to cleaned fully of any debris via tube brush and then vacuumed.
