Which sealant for garage?

I'm preparing to line my garage with cement sheet, and have gotten as far as putting some corflute against the tin, before adding some batts and then the cladding. I thought putting a sealant around the edges of the corflute to help keep the moisture out and away from the batts would be a good idea, just not sure what type I should use. Any ideas??! Thank you

Re: wondering which sealant type for my garage...

Hi @AngelaJane,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Rather than using a sealant, I'd recommend using a waterproofing tape such as this Fastfix 50mm x 5m Waterproof Repair Tape. You can simply stick it to the surface of the corflute and then the side of the timber studs to seal up the gaps. You can also use it to seal any gaps between corflute sheets if you are planning to fill in the sections at the top.

Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

thanks Jacob. That could work, though the timber is unfinished and pretty rough, and I think I'd need a heap of rolls to do the whole garage which would cost quite a bit.

Re: wondering which sealant type for my garage...

Hi @AngelaJane,

Weatherproofing tapes have a bituminous backing, which is incredibly sticky and won't have any trouble adhering to the timber or corflute.

This Grunt 50mm x 10m Flashing Tape would also be a suitable option that comes in a longer length and at a lower price.

The main reason I'd use a tape over a sealant is that the gap behind the timber to the corflute is relatively wide, so you would need a lot of sealant to cover or fill that gap. With tape, as long as it is well adhered to both sides of the opening, then it will do its job.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks, that might be the go. There's no gap, it all runs behind the timber and sits flush against the tin.
