Dovecote and wheelbarrow using floorboards

I’m no longer able to lift pallets into the car. Hence I’ve found an alternative, floorboards with the tongue and grooves. Moving onto decking timber for longer lasting wood.

Steps

Step 1

A sliding saw that can lock in the tilt and the miter angle, with a g clamp s a stopper.
also a separate angle measuring device to double check the slide saw settings.

Step 2

Someone else sent a picture of their doves at feeding time.

Step 3

IMG_8516.jpeg

Here I worked out the settings for the saw to cater for three floor boards slotted together. Tape was used the hold both sides together. Also tape going across from one slant to the next. The idea is placing 24  individual wood pieces in the correct spots all at once is hard. Tape gives when this is lifted up to get the ends to join. It’s like a set of simultaneous equations at once.

Step 4

After glue was applied and the tape removed

Step 5

I’ll make another roof out of 0.3mm aluminium, to protect the wood.

Step 6

Holding 24 segments in place at once is hard.

Step 7

Here, using a larger pot to hold the segments flush under their own weight.

Step 8

Here a roof at a shallow angle to get away with using two floor boards on each side. Didn’t look right for a dovecote.

Step 9

Here a 32degree angle was too shallow, so opted for 42 degrees. Worked it out knowing the length of three boards and the required over hang to work out the angle using trigonometry.  The mitre and tilts using a table on line.

Step 10

Thinking of using cut out doves. White plastic.

Re: Making things out of floor boards, dovecote.

Hello @Jamespeter100

I love what you've done with the dovecote and wheelbarrow! The dovecote has a nice, classic look, and the clean white finish really makes it pop against the garden. The wheelbarrow has that great, rustic vibe, and it looks solid – like it’ll last a good while. They make a great pair and add a lot of character to the garden. Nicely done!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful timber projects.
