How to combat ant infestation?

How to combat ant infestation?

I was repotting a plant and saw this ants breeding in the soil of my pot plants. Can someone know what ant killer to use safely that I’ll not kill the plants? They are also all over the soil of my garden. Thanks in advance

Re: How to combat ant infestation?

Hi @Crissyme,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. We trust you'll get loads of help and inspiration for projects all over the house and garden from our wonderful members.

Are the ants causing you any problems? All healthy gardens have ants, and they play an important role in the ecosystem. They help to remove things like dead insects and worms, help to improve soil, and also provide food for birds and reptiles.

If the ants aren't coming inside your home, I would suggest leaving them alone. Otherwise, you can follow the suggestions in this previous discussion: Black ants in garden and garden bed where one of our resident Bunnings D.I.Y. experts Mitch suggests you can sprinkle Richgro Ant Killa Insecticide Granules around the locations you see them most or the perimeter of your home.

Re: How to combat ant infestation?

Good morning Jason,

Thank you so much for responding to my question. It is becoming a problem as it starts to invade the house 😀. Also, when repotting plants I see these lots of white ant eggs and nature ones bites and it’s nasty😐.
One more question, can I put them directly on top of the potted plants?

Thanks..Crissyme

Re: How to combat ant infestation?

Hi again @Crissyme,

If you check out this product link you'll find information on how to use the product from the label and a short video - https://www.bunnings.com.au/richgro-1kg-ant-killa-insecticide-granules_p0078185

You apply to areas wherever the ants are active, and where possible directly to the nest.
