What type of drill can i hire from Bunnings to drill holes into a hard tree stump? We want to kill the roots naturally but cannot get the holes into the wood, have even tried chiseling holes (madness lol).
Thank you
Hi @caza1,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Unfortunately, we do not hire out drills that would be suitable for this task. The only drills we hire out are for drilling and breaking concrete and they do not take the type of bits you need for this work.
There are a few reasonably priced, corded drills, such as the Ozito 710W Hammer Drill or Ryobi 800W 13mm Corded Hammer Drill, which you could use.
Drilling into stumps can be a bit difficult because of the density and depth of the timber, so make sure you use a sharp drill bit and consider starting with a smaller bit, like a 5mm drill bit, before working up to a larger size.
If you need to drill long and deep holes, you'll need to use a large auger bit like this Sutton Tools 500 x 22mm Long Auger Bit.
Also, make sure you use the secondary handle on the drill as the drill will be under quite a load and they can kick in situations like that.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
As per Jacob - I would certainly be going with a long auger.
