How to fix Ryobi 36V Brushless Lawn Mower starting issue?

Hello Expert

I bought Ryobi 36V 46cm Brushless Lawn Mower 4.0Ah Kit in August last 2024. It was going good but since February, it has intermittent starting issue. Although the batter is fully charged (attached in picture) but after keep trying to start, it just start once randomly and then refused to start.

I really appreciated if someone can point is it the issue with battery or issue with mower itself?

Re: Ryobi 36V 46cm Brushless Lawn Mower 4.0Ah Kit - starting Issue

Hi @kashifrana,

Thank you for your question about your Ryobi 36V mower.

It looks like the battery and charger are functioning correctly, so there may be an issue with the mower itself, but it would be impossible for me to say what the issue is without being able to physically check the mower.

My suggestion is to bring your mower, battery and charger back to the store of purchase with your receipt.

The Power Garden team will be able to assist with the investigation, and as it will still be under warranty, they will be able to assist you with a replacement.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob

Thanks Jacob. I am trying to find the receipt but unfortunately I was not able to find :unhappy:  Is there a way I can get the old receipt from bunnings store or somehow with serial number or something they can help me find the receipt? Thanks

Hi @kashifrana,

Yes, the store of purchase can reprint receipts if you can provide a time, date, value and location of the transaction. If you check your bank statements, you should be able to track down this information.

I'd suggest giving the store of purchase a call and asking to speak with a manager. They will be able to assist you with reprinting your receipt.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Re: Ryobi 36V 46cm Brushless Lawn Mower 4.0Ah Kit - starting Issue

This case seems to be the same as mine.

I have brought the whole stuffs of the Ryobi lawn mower 36v to the Eastgarden except receipt.

Then, the manager at the Eastgarden helped me to print out the receipt.

Then, he said that my lawn mower model was different one from the one in the receipt even though the card details and the date, the brand were same.

So, he rejected to fix it.

I could understand him but I have used the rhobi lawn mower 36v only since I bought it.

Is there anyway how I could get help?

Thank you very for your attention.

Re: How to fix Ryobi 36V Brushless Lawn Mower starting issue?

Hi @kashifrana,

I am pretty sure I know what's going on with your mower because I have come across this problem a few times.

Cordless garden tools (and mowers) are subjected to a lot of vibration.

Typically - the garden tool is working ok during use but suddenly the motor becomes intermittent (randomly turns on/off) or stops altogether (dies).

Here is one example:

While using one of my XU1 grass trimmers it suddenly died on me.

Took that to the worksop and grabbed the other one from the garden shed.

Later on here is what I discovered:

With the thing completely pulled apart I discovered one of the motor wires had broken off it's motor terminal connection.

Here is what it looks like.

Vibration caused that exacerbated (made worse) by the weight of the inductor inline with the motor connection.

The inductor and capacitor provide EMI suppression.

Sometimes the heat shrink sleeving will keep the (No 1) wire end in partial contact with the motor terminal (intermittent operation) or (No 2) comes adrift (dead motor). In your case the problem will likely be No 1.

Hopefully as mentioned you will have proof of purchase and be able to exchange.

If not... maybe you have a DIY friend that can help you pull the mower apart.

Cheers
