How to kill lawn weeds?

My lawn consists mainly of buffalo and kikuyu grasses.

My intention  is to use DAVID GRAYS Crab Grass & Clover Killer to kill various weeds and other grass, ie crab and pespalum.

Intending to use a spray nozzle to cover the lawn.

I intend to use a weaker solution, at least half the recommended  dosage.

Will this option affect the buffalo and kikuyu grasses.

Re: to kill lawn weeds

Hello @alexk

David Grays Crab Grass & Clover Killer is formulated as a selective herbicide, meaning it is designed to target certain broadleaf weeds and grasses such as crab grass and paspalum while leaving most common lawn grasses unaffected. However, buffalo in particular can be very sensitive to herbicides, especially if the product is not specifically marked as safe for buffalo lawns. Kikuyu is generally more tolerant, but caution is still advised.

This product is not intended as a broad spray for an entire lawn but rather as a spot treatment directed at problem areas. Spraying it widely across buffalo turf can risk burning or damaging the lawn, even if you dilute the mix below the recommended strength. Reducing the dosage might lower the risk of injury to your grass, but it also makes the herbicide less effective against the targeted weeds, which often require the full rate to be properly controlled.

The safest method is to use a directed spray with a hand-held nozzle, applying only to the weeds you want to eliminate rather than broadcasting it across the entire lawn surface. This will protect the buffalo and kikuyu while still controlling crab grass and paspalum effectively.

Please remember to wear personal protections such as gloves, goggles and a mask when spraying the weeds.
