How to prune a flowering gumtree?
We have a beautiful Western Australian flowering gum that is way overgrown. It’s around 6 metres and is hanging over the roof. We’d like to cut it right back, what’s the best way to do this?

Re: pruning
Hi @Tubby
There are about 1million youtube of people cutting trees badly. and yours is directly over your roof so consider an arborist to protect you and your roof,
If the branches small use a teloscopic chain saw pruner

Re: How to prune a tree?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Tubby. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about pruning trees.
First step is to check with your local council to determine whether a permit is needed to trim the tree. It might not be, but it could help avoid a costly fine. I know a permit is required for any tree pruning in my area.
That's a great tool suggestion from @Jewelleryrescue, but if it's not quite long enough and this is a one-off job, you might like to consider a manual pole pruner. They'll typically get you higher, but still not quite the six-meter mark.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
