How to remove all plants and landscape backyard?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a garden renovation and need some advice on getting it fully cleared. I want to:

  • Remove all existing trees (a few mature ones)

  • Clear out all shrubs, plants, and roots

  • Strip off the top layer of soil

  • Possibly level the area depending on what's underneath

Hi @Milwu,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

Considering the size and maturity of the tree in the corner, I'd suggest checking with your local council to see if they have any regulations on what can and can't be removed.

If they are happy for the tree to be removed, I would suggest you contact a tree lopper for their assistance as there are a number of inherent risks involved with its removal.

For the smaller trees, you could remove their canopy using a pruning saw, before bringing down the trunk in sections using the same saw.

Once the trees are removed, you can use a combination of a mattock, garden fork and shovel for the last three dot points.

Removing the smaller trees and shrubs will be a fair bit of work, but certainly manageable yourself. I would leave the removal of that big tree to the professionals.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jacob
