Mediterranean entertaining area with recycled Jarrah deck

Mediterranean entertaining area with recycled Jarrah deck

After renovating the decks and verandah around our house, we had some jarrah decking boards that we wanted to recycle. There was an empty spot at the bottom of our garden which needed some love, so we used the decking and created this cute Mediterranean-inspired entertaining spot, with a small seating area (using a recycled table), a pizza oven (on a recycled stand), and a wine barrel (from a local winery). The planting includes Eremophila Pink Pantha, lavender and rosemary, plus some young olive trees nestled next to established native banksia trees.

Steps

Step 1

The area was previously empty except for a couple of native banksia trees. It is just outside our pool fence, out of view from the house.

Step 2

We built a simple frame for the deck, painted it for extra protection, then cut the jarrah decking that we wanted to recycle to fit the frame. The decking was screwed to the frame and then stained for a more uniform colour. (We used some leftover stain from another project)

Step 3

We planted lavender, rosemary and olive trees for a Mediterranean feel, plus some native Eremophila Pink Pantha for colour. The wine barrel came from a local winery. The round glass table we have had for 15 years, (originally from Bunnings!), but we added some new sling chairs. The stand for the cute pizza oven was made from a recycled metal frame clad with offcuts of the jarrah decking.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @FixerDownUnder. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for sharing your project.

That’s a wonderful transformation! I really like how you’ve repurposed the jarrah decking as it gives the space so much warmth and character. The combination of the pizza oven and the Mediterranean planting makes it feel like the perfect spot to unwind and entertain. Beautiful work!

Good Evening @FixerDownUnder

Love the path that curves around to the recyled deck! You guys have really lifted a pretty blank slate into something that wuld draw you down to sit.

Just went back and checked what you used for the path  Those Traveltine pavers really bed the area in to the landscape.
