Hi,
I have 2 septic systems that I want to hide with hedges that are about 1m high.
One tank is in the shade and the other is in the direct sun.
Can I order hedge plants from Bunnings for delivery?
What hedge variety do I need for he shade? direct sun?
How much do I space them apart?
thanks!!
Hi @Steve5,
When choosing hedges to hide septic tanks, it’s important to select varieties with non-invasive root systems to avoid damage to the tanks. You can order hedging plants, including mature specimens, from Bunnings for delivery, and it’s a great idea to chat with the Nursery Expert at your local store for tailored recommendations based on your site’s sun and shade conditions.
For shaded areas, plants like Murraya or Camellia sasanqua work well, while sunnier spots suit Westringia, dwarf Lilly Pilly, or Escallonia varieties. Spacing will depend on the specific plant’s mature size, but typically ranges from 30 cm to 1 metre apart. Closer spacing fills in faster for a dense hedge, while wider spacing reduces plant numbers but takes longer to establish.
Here's a helpful guide: How to choose a screening plant.
