Hi
I need some advice as to which hedge would be best for the front of my house. I want a fast growing native that will give a thick hedge at the front as well live on a main road.i was thinking Photinia Red Robin or Lilly pilly called syzygium cascade. which would be the fastest to grow, how far apart from eachother for a thick hedge and does Bunnings sell at 1m tall? Thank you.
Hi @ameliahollis89,
Thank you for your question.
Of the two, the Syzygium Cascade would be the better option based on your criteria as it is native to Australia, whereas Photinia Red Robin is native to Asia. They are both relatively fast growing and would be suitable for hedging, but due to this, the Lilly Pillies would be better.
To form a thick hedge with either of these species, you'll want to plant them around 60 to 80 centimetres apart and prune regularly from an early stage to encourage bushy growth.
As our plant suppliers are regional and stock changes from season to season, I can't say with certainty what plants would be available in your area. In this situation, your best option would be to contact your local store and speak with their Horticultural expert. They will have the contact information for their local suppliers and will be able to assist you with what is currently available. If it is not in stock, they may still be able to order it in.
