How to identify kitchen benchtop material?

Hi Bunnings,

I'm starting a kitchen reno project and wanted to know what material my current Kitchen benchtop is made of?

The house was built in the year 2000 (Melbourne) and I was told by the previous owner that it is natural granite. This is correct?

I can't tell myself as I have no experience in benchtops.

Thanks in advance, Ben.

Re: Existing kitchen benchtop material?

Based on the photo and the age of the home @bennib0i, it does appear very likely that your benchtop is natural granite. The mottled, irregular pattern with varied mineral flecks and depth of colour is typical of granite, and it does not have the uniform or repeated pattern you would usually see with laminate or engineered stone. The polished finish and slightly rounded front edge are also very common features of granite benchtops installed in homes built around the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
