Hi Community,
My wife and I are in the middle of a kitchen refresh and are planning to install a new splash back. We understand that behind the gas hobs we need to use glass, while either side we can use a polymer option. We're leaning towards going all-glass for a cleaner look.
Our main question is around cutouts for two powerpoints—how is this usually done with glass splashbacks? I’m guessing it’s not something I can DIY.
Would really appreciate any advice or tips from those who’ve been through this or know the process.
Thanks in advance!
Nick
Hello @twochicks (Nick)
Thank you for reaching out with your question about installing a glass splashback. When you choose to go with glass, the process usually begins with a professional site visit. A qualified glass installer will come to your home to take precise measurements and create a detailed template of your wall. This template will include all necessary cut-outs, such as those for power points or fixtures. Because glass splashbacks are made from toughened (tempered) glass, all cutting must be done in the factory before the glass is hardened—it’s not something that can be altered later as a DIY job.
For the best results, I recommend visiting your local Bunnings store and speaking with one of the in-store kitchen specialists. They can walk you through the entire process, from measuring and quoting to ordering and installation. A helpful tip: make sure any cabinetry and power points are fully installed before the site measure takes place, as even slight changes afterward can affect the fit of the glass.
This approach ensures a smooth installation and a sleek, custom look for your kitchen.
