How to remove granite splashback?

Hello
I would like to remove the granite splash back and was wondering if there is a risk of damaging the drywall ? Also I don’t know how much glue was used.

I want to tile a new splash back but I’m not sure if I should do it so some wise advice would be nice 😊 is it worth it ?

Re: Removal of granite splash back

Hi @steph7,

There’s a very high chance you’ll damage the plasterboard when removing a granite splashback. You’ll likely need to patch or even replace sections of the wall afterwards. Sometimes, if space allows, you can simply install a cement sheet over the existing plasterboard and glue your tiles onto that, which can save a lot of hassle.

It could definitely be worth the effort if you're after that tiled look — it really comes down to whether you're prepared for a bit of extra wall repair along the way. It's also worth mentioning, although it's less common, that there is a small risk of damaging the benchtop when removing the splashback, so take your time and be cautious if you go ahead.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
