What are your best products and tips for oven cleaning?

Hi all. I need to tackle the horrible task of cleaning my oven. I’d like to get it right the first time so hoping for advice on how others have done it and what the most effective products and techniques to use are. Thanks:)

Hello @Narla my Wife uses Mr. Muscle but I would imagine most products work in a similar fashion, strong odour but effective, don't forget the PPE.

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

Hi @Narla

I like using  specialised  oven cleaning gels to minimise scrubbing effort. Life to short for that sort of effort.

It also  helps if you know how to lift your wire racking out to clean external to oven and this gives you better access to oven walls.

Basically you spray the gel on and let it sit there for a while 10 -15 mins wipe the gel and grime away and repeat if build up was super thick.

The following  product works best if you prewarm ( touch warm)the oven so  the  instructions say for best results.

  • New Formula - 2x CLEANING POWER*
  • No fumes heavy duty clean
  • No scrubbing required
  • Healthier ovens - removes grease and grime to help stop bacteria from flourishing
  • *Must be applied to warm surfaces; compared to previous cold surfaces formula
Selleys Oven Plus Heavy Duty Gel is a no fumes oven cleaner that easily removes stubborn burnt on grease and grime fast. The powerful formula is easily applied to oven walls, floors and racks by the specifically designed applicator. It can also be applied to Cookware and Bakeware to remove long term stubborn stains that you thought would never leave.

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

Thanks very much @Jewelleryrescue @for the product tips. Do you know if there is a way to clean the grill element?

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

Hi @Narla

Sorry for dely

Use the same product on the grill element should be fine they should be electrically sealed and will take a bit of cleaning Just dont splash around as much water  where the element goes into the  oven wall as there maybe a  electrical connector around there.on the outside of the oven interior.

Simply  rinse element off and let it naterally dry for a couple hours  with the door open  a bit before use .

You  should also be able to clean interior light  on its out side wiping the cleaning gel on and off with a little  polish with a  clean fresh cloth like tea towel

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

I wasted far too much time trying all the internet's ideas with vinegar and bicarb soda. get the solid good stuff and follow the instructions. I also used very heavy duty scourers and, for the really extreme stuff, a piece of chain mail.

the oven came up good though i didn't know what I was getting myself in for!

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

Hi @Ready2go

You  done well   the old school stuff works to a point but normally with a lot of elbow  grease .  What happened to  the person  in the chain mail lol

Imagine having to  clean constantly rusting armor those squires  will be up at bunnings all the time buying steel wool.  The  smart ones are the black knights lower  maintinace?

Plus the oven you almost working upside down for the hard to reach spots.

Re: Best products and tips for oven cleaning

Hello @Narla

My apologies for the late reply. It's great that you've received excellent advice from @DIYGnome, @Jewelleryrescue and @Ready2go. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend using Selleys 350g Oven Clean. It's an easy-to-use aerosol spray that acts on heavy grease and food stains. I've personally used this product and it is very powerful and cleans not only the oven but its accessories as well.

This product does have a very strong odour and I recommend wearing personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a P2 rated mask. I also suggest making sure that there are no other family members in the house when you start spraying the oven. I recommend spraying the accessories separately outside. My best advice is to give the spray enough time to activate so that it works on all the stains in the oven.

Please make sure to follow all the safety guidelines printed at the back of the can.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Afterrnoon @Narla

Just to throw this into the pot, I have used degreaser from repco for the stainless steel hood of the exhaust. Worked a treat in removing the grime. As for cleaning the oven..... Ahhhhhh I need a new one  so thats not happening soon lol
