Im looking to remove fixing nut inorder to replace my kitchen mixer tap. My hands barely reach behind the sink. Im not sure what tool can be used to remove this fixing nut( black)
Hi @clivelloyd
Unfortunately, there is no specific tool to remove this plastic fixing nut under the kitchen tap. This type of assembly is usually installed before the sink is fixed in place. In order to have better access to the fixing nut, I suggest removing both Flexi-hoses by turning them anti-clockwise. Once the hoses are off you should have a bit more access to the fixing nut.
I recommend using Haron 45mm Slip Joint Pliers. If the black plastic skirt is too flexible and you cant get a grip on both sides try holding just one side to get it loose. If it still proves to be too difficult, you'll have to remove the locking clips under your sink and take your sink off in order to remove the kitchen tap.

Would this be the same?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @domhaywood. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about tap nuts.
That is the same nut as shown above. This basin wrench wasn't mentioned previously, but it can often allow you to remove nuts in difficult-to-reach spaces. The head flips over, and the turning is actioned by the T-handle.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi!
I found this post while looking for a tool to work with a very similar, if not the same back nut. The Irwin basin wrench is not wide enough to catch this nut, so I designed and 3D printed one that does. As the nut is so far recessed, I couldn't measure it other than eyeballing it from a photo. I almost got it right, the first version didn't catch due to flexing. I have yet to try the second version, which can be closed off. If anyone still needs this tool, I will post it online once I test it.
Hello @Murat
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience in regards to removing the plastic fixing nut of the kitchen mixer. That is indeed a very clever way of using a 3D printed wrench to remove such a deep-seated nut. I don't think I've ever seen one that does the job properly. Once you have it perfected, please make sure to post a photo of the tool. I'm sure our members who are in the same situation will find the information very useful.
