Hi I have taken all my old cupboards out and are putting in Kaboodle ;-). My question is what should I put on the floor where my free standing oven is going to go. Should I tile it? You won't see it, but I need to build the floor up so it is level with the existing tile. Later on I will be putting vinyl flooring over all the tiled area.
Hi @JoWhato,
How high do you need to build the area up? I presume around 16mm to account for the tile and adhesive. Solid cement sheets of that thickness are quite pricey, such as the Hardie 2400 x 1200 x 15mm 2.88m² Panel Compressed Sheet. The issue is that you'll still have an unsealed area beneath your cabinetry, where moisture can migrate in, especially if you wet mop. Given the price of the sheeting, it would probably make sense to just tile this area. Even if they are not the same tiles, they would provide a water-resistant coating over your particle board flooring.
Here's a helpful guide: How to lay floor tiles.
