Bunnings pallets bed base with storage

F7BFB86F-F447-4AF3-93CD-7F4484ED60C1.jpegOk so I ordered a new mattress and was tossing up buying a base or building one. Saw some nice units in the shops but wow! , a bit pricy.

So off to Marsden Park and Rouse hill stores to recycle their pallets again. Almost known as pallet man by now 😂

Structural timber was purchased Pine. Strong and light.

Then the recycled bits just happened to come in handy and worked in well. Thicker pallet timber used around top and bottom rails and standard depth pallets used for drawer fronts and handles. Internal drawer timber, slotted pine panels. Cabot’s Walnut and Coco Black stain used.

Re: Bunnings pallets bed base with storage

Hi Gypsii,

first step is to measure your mattress. I made the top 15mm gap all around to allow the tucking of the sheets without finger scraping.
height is totally up to you. Mine is 450mm from floor to top edge. Mattress is 380mm so it’s a tall climb in. Oops didn’t check mattress height in shop.
the drawers are all customised to suit the upright supports. And fronts were cut to allow the overhang to fit to the edge. The side drawers are 900 wide and 600mm deep great for extra linen storage. Or for hiding chocolates from kids. (Lol don’t tell them please they have lasted me weeks.)

with the right tools and changes to the design throughout this tool about 3 weeks from start to finish as I was doing it at night after work and didn’t want to annoy neighbours with power tool noises so cuts and sanding were done on weekends or early evenings. Assembly was all done in the room.

mit is just trial and error on some things. Measure twice cut once. Most useful tip ever.

just remember one thing……whether you think you can or think you can’t. You are right.
i always think I can, until proven wrong. And it’s never been proven yet.
good luck and I’m here if you need any advice, Or tips.
