How to change wardrobe doors to sliding?

I'm considering upgrading two built in wardrobes from swinging doors to sliders. One is 3 doors wide  and the other 2. They are a pretty old school design and not a standard shape. The larger one is a rhomboid in plan with trapeziod shelves at one end. There should be space between the shelves and the wall to accommodate the tracks (13mm). My main question is if I order doors through Bunnings will they be customised to fit?

The 3 door wardrobe has a post for a door attachment. This will need to be removed for a sliding door, along with the wood doorstop to fit the top guide. Some remedial woodwork repair would be required but is not a deal breaker.

Each door is 720 mm wide, the post is 40 mm. Measurements for the wardrobe entry are top 2208 mm, bottom 2206 mm and the height is 2055 mm. The base is carpet laid on a slab.

The wardrobe contains bunnings kit wire mesh drawers. The placement of these makes a 2 door slider system difficult as they could not be accessed. At a pinch they could be relocated to the left side of the wardrobe to accommodate 2 doors however this would leave a triangular void. 3 doors would probably be a better solution.

So.. Is it feasible to fit sliding doors into a wardrobe like this and would they be cut to size?Image581503945994482646.jpgImage1613878465938019081.jpgImage7885979792053838189.jpg

Re: sliding wardrobe doors

Hello @PJW1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your wardrobe doors.

Due to the limited space, I propose looking at the Cowdroy 2400mm Quick-Fix Door Track Set or the Cowdroy Robemaker 3 Door Track Set White 2.42m (special order). I also suggest having a look at this discussion - How to change wardrobe doors to sliding? by @jarrahlo. For your wardrobe doors, I propose looking at the HUME wardrobe doors as they can be ordered custom size, but I suggest following the installation instructions set out by Cowdroy before you order your doors. It might be necessary to pack the wardrobe frame to get a square finish.

I suggest speaking to your local store's special orders team to get a quote for your wardrobe doors. Please remember to bring your measurements with you.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @AlanM52 for their recommendations.

Re: sliding wardrobe doors

Good Evening @PJW1

I think your built in upgrade will look pretty swish when you complete it

The sliding doors that @EricL has suggested sound good, As to modifying the actual cabintry behind them it shouldnt be too hard. As you have to remove that door post support, (Its still needed I would think to keep everything solid) Why not switch it over so you can put those draw sets on the left? Move the clothes rail to the right at the same time so minimal work but you change the configuration of teh cupboard?

When you shift the door post, (I would notch it so its half sunk into the shelf) I would also install a back vertical post  inline with it. This is to give some solid support for the basket shelving if needed.
