Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @adkandel. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a wall.
To fix the patched area on your wall, start by preparing the surface. Use a scraper to remove any loose or flaking paint and filler around the holes, then sand the area with 120–180 grit sandpaper to smooth it out and create a solid base. Wipe away any dust before moving on.
Next, fill the holes with plaster filler, pressing it in firmly with a scraper and slightly overfilling to allow for shrinkage. Smooth it off as best you can, and if the holes are deep, apply the filler in two layers, letting the first dry before topping up. Spread some filler over the surrounding chips or cracks as well, feathering the edges so it blends with the wall. Once the filler is completely dry, sand it flat with 180 grit, then finish with 240 grit sandpaper for a fine, smooth surface.
If the area still looks uneven, apply a thin skim coat of filler over the entire patch, let it dry, and sand again. When you’re happy with the finish, apply a coat of undercoat to seal the filler and prevent patchiness. Finally, paint over the repair with your wall paint, using two thin coats rather than one thick coat, feathering the edges into the surrounding wall for a seamless finish. For the best results, work in good lighting and consider repainting the whole wall if the existing paint has faded over time.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
