How to fix gaps in floorboards?

IMG_4911.jpeg

Hello,

I am have some floor boards where the filler is quite cracked and I am hoping to fill in some of the gaps. I have done some others before with No More Gaps for Timber Floors which worked but it shrunk a fair bit. I just wanted to see if there is a better product to use.
Thank you

Re: How to fix gaps in floorboards?

Hello @Rose_

Thank you for sharing your question about your floor. I recommend looking at the Integrain WoodBlend, Cabot's Wood Tone Putty and Timbermates Wood Filler. These fillers come in different wood finishes you just need to see which one is the closest to your current floor finish. My best advice is to make sure that the timber piece on your floor is attached very well to the frame and is not loose or moving.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thank you for those suggestions.

I thought those are more for filling any gaps in the boards (or other wood) but I am trying to fill the gaps between each of the floor boards so I didn't think those would be the best option?

Re: How to fix gaps in floorboards?

Hello @Rose_

If you feel that fillers are not sufficient as there are numerous gaps, I suggest looking at Poly 450g Coloured Caulk Gap Filler or Selleys 380g Hardwood No More Gaps Timber Floors Gap Filler (which you've already tried). My best advice is to choose the one closest to the colour of your floor and to make sure that the gap is fully filled so that it does not sink into the gap which gives the impression of shrinking. These are the only alternatives that I saw that would work with the gaps in your floor.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to fix gaps in floorboards?

Good Morning @Rose_

The only one of the timber look products I have had experience with is the timbermate ones that @EricL has suggested. I find timbermate products work extremley well.

Re: How to fix gaps in floorboards?

Hi @Rose_

Last spring as part of many other fixes, I had to repair the exact same issue you have in filling large gaps in the floorboards near a bathroom.

I cleaned/scraped out the loose wood and then used a close as possible filler and allowed a day for it to set. Then topped it up once dry after some shrinkage and gave it another day. After sanding I used a very fine paint Bruch to apply an epoxy clear oil-base to seal the repair work. It wasn't perfect as it would never have matched the sections of original board. But I feathered out the application and once dried and given a few days nobody would be the wider.
