How to fix peeling paint from wall?

Hi all,

I have this patch of paint that peeled from my bedroom wall. How should I go about to fix this?

Re: peeling paint from wall

Hey @brigittandya ,

It’s an easy repair. Give the edges of the peeled area a light sand so they feather out and you don’t have a sharp ridge. Then wipe it clean of dust. If the exposed patch feels chalky, seal it with a quick coat of primer or even a stain block spray, this stops the new paint soaking in differently to the surrounding wall.

Next, apply a thin skim of premixed filler or spakfilla with a wide putty knife, just enough to bring it level with the rest of the wall. Let it dry, sand smooth with fine paper, and check by running your hand over it, it should feel flush. You might need a second light coat if it shrinks back.

Once you’re happy, prime the patch again and then paint over with your wall colour. If you’ve got leftover paint from when the room was done, perfect. If not take a flake of the wall to your local bunnings and get it matched at the paint section, paint over the spot and see if it blends well, if not just repaint the whole wall section to blend it properly, as small touch-ups can sometimes flash in different light.

That’s really all there is to it. Sand, seal, fill, sand again, prime, and paint. It’ll disappear once done.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @brigittandya. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing damage to plasterboard.

@Remarka6le has really covered everything you need to do step by step — that’s exactly the process I’d recommend as well. Just to make things a little easier, you could use British Paints 100ml White Water Based 4 in 1 Prep Primer Sealer Undercoat to seal the exposed patch before painting, a 100mm Sharp Edge Paint Scraper to neaten the edges and apply your filler, and Selleys 180g Spakfilla Rapid Gap Filler to bring the surface level. Once that’s dry and sanded smooth, finish it off with Dulux Wash & Wear in your wall colour. Follow the prep steps Remarka6le outlined with those products, and you’ll have that patch looking good as new.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
