Hi All
My question is, what is the best approach to installing a 98" tv (54.3kg) into a wall bracket on a steel studs. VESA hole pattern is 800x600.
I have a MJH steel framed house and am now looking to install my tv via wall bracket. I have installed this setup in the past with a 60kg plasma tv but it was into wood studs via coach screws. Can you please advise best screws or setup to use in this scenario.
Info taken from other threads:
Is there a smaller packet you reccomend other than - https://www.bunnings.com.au/buildex-12-14-x-50mm-climaseal-hex-head-hi-grip-with-seal-roofing-tek-sc...
Should I use both of these in combination - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ramset-super-wallmate-toggle-anchor-10-pack_p2260188
Tox M8 x 100mm Heavy Duty Metal Toggle
Will these be sufficient - https://www.bunnings.com.au/zenith-12g-x-45mm-galvanised-hex-head-metal-screws-50-pack_p2420716
As you can see it is now analysis paralysis. I will include photos of the wall and bracket shortly. Please let me know if you require any other info.
Cheers

Hi @cr54,
I would not use any of those fastenings and we'll come back to that.
Way back in sixties and when I came out of RMIT in 1971 and worked in industry we called them Root Nuts... and they still exist.
The popular choice today is a Rivet Nut.
Both are basically blind nuts.
Work out the location of the VESA bracket and add more framing to install the rivet nuts.
Buy a small pack of screws same thread and leave leave 4 screwed in there for the plastering.
Come back to discuss some more...
Wall fastenings.
That is a weak point and it uses two thin gauge shells, one inside the other that can spread.
I usually use gravity bolts they are inherently stronger and have a thicker shell.

Hello @cr54
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about hanging your TV to your steel stud wall.
That is a lot of TV weight to be putting onto your stud wall. I suggest speaking to MJH and asking them the weight rating for the steel stud inside your wall before you begin. The weight of the TV might be too much for the skin of the steel stud and might bend or distort its features especially if it is just mounted on two studs. I also recommend speaking to them about how to reinforce the steel stud wall so that it will not bow or bend to the weight applied to it.
@AlanM52 suggestion of using Rivet Nuts is ideal, it has excellent weight carrying capacity, but it is dependent on the material that it is anchored onto.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @cr54
I agree with @AlanM52 in that none of your suggested fasteners will be suitable. And though Rivet-Nuts are an excellent idea, may not be that easy to install if not familiar and require a special tool to install them. But they are not that expensive. I bought one as an attachment for my drill. You would need at least M6 size and a min of 4 fastening points. But as you go up in rivet size, they are only suitable to grip a larger thickness material. This is where it will get problematic.
Personally, I would consider either seeking advice from a fastener specialty outlet or have the brackets professionally installed. They will have experience in large sized TV's mounting to steel frame. Plus they will warranty the work.

Good morning @cr54
Im with the "I wouldnt suggest using those fastenters" for a steel stud wall. For the same concerns.
Id be thinking of installing extra noggings between the studs to support the new tv, or distributing the load as much as you can over several studs. If you look up the manufavture of the tv/wall bracket they may give you what type of fastenings are needed for a steel stud wall?
I havnt really had to deal with steel framed houses as yet. So I would say there is an answer, just one that I dont know as yet ![]()
