gday - I’m looking to install some hybrid flooring to replace carpet in 2 bedrooms. The carpet and foam underlay is gone and I have a stone slap left. To match the other floors I’ve purchased Floorselect 6mm blackbutt hybrid floors but I have 2 questions:
1) do I need any underlay? I was told by someone I would for the humidity in summer but the Bunnings employee said I wouldn’t because there is foam built into the boards. If you think I do what size and material?
2) how do I cut down the boards? I’ve seen people score and snap them however I’ve also been told to cut them with a circular saw
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Hello @BandofSaws
The Floor Select 6mm 2.2m² Blackbutt Hybrid Waterproof Flooring comes with pre-adhered 1.5mm foam underlay. Therefore, it's no longer necessary to place another layer of underlay. However, I suggest installing builder's plastic to serve as a moisture barrier. I propose having a look at the CAgroup 2 x 40m x 200um Black High Impact Polypro Builders Film as a possible candidate. The plastic can be joined together using ordinary packaging tape.
The boards can be cut down using a circular saw, jig saw, drop saw and even a hand saw. I don't advise using the score and snap technique as it sometimes does not snap evenly. The cut end can be sanded lightly to remove any swarf at the end of the board.
