can you explain how to replace round heating vents.
Hi @judy4742,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
It could be slightly different, but it looks like you have vents that are very similar to this Haron International 200mm Round Jet Diffuser Ceiling Vent. These vents just clip in, meaning to remove them, you will just need to pull on them.
You will experience some resistance, but it is not so much that you can't remove it.
Assuming it is just a vent cover without an exhaust fan behind it, then you would just need to match up the diameter of the hole in the plasterboard with a replacement vent.
If there is an exhaust fan behind it, then it will be hard-wired, meaning you will require the assistance of an electrician.
Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Hi @judy4742
You say replace? What were you are thinking of replacing it with.
Also, that looks almost like a central heating duct and may have a large silver conduit taped to it as you pull it down and out.
But what is possible depends on your end goal of what you want done.
If you’re replacing them because they’re discoloured, you can soak them in hydrogen peroxide and place them in the sun for few hours and they’ll go back to white.
Hello @Emerald
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience in regards to discoloured plastics. How long should the plastic be soaked in Hydrogen peroxide? How long should the plastic be exposed to the sun? Are there any known side effects to the process?
Eric
A few hours soaking out in the sunlight will do it.
Hi @judy4742
I am quite sure that is a central heating vent - we have them.
As JacobZ mentioned they have quite a strong spring on the retainer arm(s).
When pulling the vent down don't be surprised if one of the retainer arms takes a chunk out of the plaster.
To replace-
Work your fingers between vent and ceiling.
Pull down to 'toggle open' the retainers.
There will be quite a loud snap sound.
Remove the duct tape.
Pull the vent off the flexible duct.
Work the replacement vent into the ducting so it is all the way down.
Run duct tape around a few times and flatten down.
You will likely see notches in the plaster so line up the retainers with those and push up.
Also wondering why you want to change them?
Cheers
