hello team,
How do I fill the gap shown in the attached photos
thanks!
Hello @emmab1986
Thank you for sharing your question about filling a gap on your floor bead. I suggest using Selleys 475g No More Gaps Interior Multipurpose Gap Filler. It has excellent reviews and is easy to use. Please make sure that you have a silicone gun that will be suitable for the Selleys interior gap filler cartridge.
Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How To Silicone Seal A Bath (the techniques used are applicable to your project)

Thanks, Eric. I’ll follow the instructions.
Your guidance is very helpful.
Hi Eric,
I have another question regarding the gap in the photos: what caused that big gap?

Hello @emmab1986
Movement is often caused by settling or expansion and retraction. Part of the foundation of the house moves causing the wall and floor to shift away from each other. Wood shrinks and expands, when this happens enough times, large gaps can appear. The gap will often occur over an extended period of time and does not happen immediately. But of course, there are circumstances that override these occurrences such as a large amount of water soaking into the soil and earthquakes.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Thank you so much, Eric!
One more question:) There is a small area of the timber floor that has sunk slightly. When stepped on, it feels hollow, as if there is a void beneath the floor. How should this be fixed?
Hello @emmab1986
This is a bit worrisome, it might be moisture damage, and the wood has rotted from within. It could be just a loose piece of timber that has lost support. In this circumstance, I suggest investigating the flooring from below if possible. However, if it is not possible to go underneath, I suggest engaging the services of a handy person to investigate the cause. Please keep in mind that this may involve the floor being dismantled and discovering a larger issue due to moisture damage or just the flooring panels deteriorating.
In regards to repair, replacement of the floor panels will be involved and re-staining them to the same colour will be the final step.
