How to enclose subfloor?

I want to enclose my sub floor under my whole house so that it looks cleaner and less chance of pests gathering.

It needs to be breathable to let moisture ventilate.
any recommendations ?
Is using a wire mesh a good option

Re: How to enclose subfloor?

Hello @svenks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about enclosing your subfloor.

It appears that you already have an existing trellis cover, if you are planning to replace the cover with something else, I suggest having a look at these discussions - How to screen under house on concrete stumps by @BecB and How to add under house screening to metal posts by @Nonithepony. But as an added deterrent, I suggest using Cyclone 910mm x 10m Aluminium Flyscreen behind the subfloor covering to prevent vermin or insects from passing through.

To cover the bottom of the subfloor to prevent vermin from passing through, I suggest installing a two-brick border between posts which will allow the cover to sit on the bricks.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Hi @svenks

I would follow @EricL post on How to add under house screening to metal posts which is exactly how I would approach the project.

Re: How to enclose subfloor?

Good Evening @svenks

I have used a bamboo paneling to cover the underside of my back room.

Outside bench shows you the paneling under the bench. Its still solid tho has an aged appearance to it after a couple of years.

You could do the same type of deal with vertical timbers against the brick supports and then attache the bamboo sheeting to them. I do think Merbau timber would last longer and look nicer then the bamboo. Its effectivly installing small privacy screens between each of the pillars. You could even go for a continuous look and make the screen cover the brick piers, Include a solid framed gate (bunning sells metal frames that you can fit) for the bins.

Pool deck stage 2 Shows the type of timber slats I am thinking of. They are smaller in width then floorboards. This screen has lasted 14 ish years now with very little maintanence.
