This is the front of the house. The current awning provides no weather protection to the front door. The driveway is stencilled with a pattern that goes around the current steps and empty garden beds.
How can I extend the awning to provide better protection. Should I increase the patio space and cover the garden beds ?
Any and all suggestions welcome
Hi @BecHam,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
There are a few things you could do, depending on the extent you are looking to go and your budget.
Are you aware of what the existing awning is made of?
Could we get some photos of it from a bit closer?
If possible, I would be looking at removing the existing awning and replacing it with something like this Windoware 3 x 2m Charcoal Easy Fit Awning.
There are also options for pergolas like this Softwoods 3.6 x 3.0m Pergola Kit or this Toja 2.44 x 3.66m Grid Wall Mount Pergola Kit W/ Shade Sail, although you would need to have the house assessed by a professional such as a licenced builder or structural engineer to ensure it is suitable to attach to your home.
If some of the problems are from driving rain, you could also install some screening or plant screening plants to help protect against that sideways rain.
Allow me to tag @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @JoeAzza to see what ideas they have.
Let me know what you think.

Good Evening @BecHam
Mmmmm No one wants to get wet while they are trying to get into the house on a cold and wet night.
I would actually cost the scenerios of the awnings that have been mentioned already against a larger deck with a roof. The deck with a proper roof (with the correct fall for water to run off) will be more expensive but I think it would stand up to the weather better.
I am thinking of the deck extending out to just right of the window over the garden bed in front of your car and probarly come off the wall by 2m.
Sketch it up so you can see the two scenerios, with the modify verse the new.

Hello @BecHam
I totally agree with the recommendations made by our members, as an extra alternative, I propose building a pergola walkway with clear Suntuff roofing all the way to the front. In this manner you can park the car right next to it so that when you get down you are immediately under cover.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
