How to fix caravan ceiling leak?

Hi as I’ve just found this site I am very thankful we have a 2019 van with a devious ceiling drip drip so far we e attempted resealing the outer roof sheet joins but alas it is still there it drips just in front of the air condition er and I’m next step is take of the outer cover and see if the tray drain holes are blocked ,in the end we’re going to,have to replace a section of ceiling as water is doing its best at bubbling ruining the panel ,would like to find  some matching linen look white original panel ,have the tools the time but after a point in the right direction where to source materials ,this is of course once we’ve found where exactly the water is getting in the best we’ve found so far is tilting the van a bit towards the back so water runs of it better to the rear but today it dripped again a constant battle I hope maybe removing the inner grill etc we may see small day light so pots where it is coming from maybe wishful thinking king but I’ll keep in touch

Re: caravan ceiling leak

Hi @graedeb55,

A 2019 van is 'too young' to start leaking like that... hmm.

Many of the older Vans and RV's you see on the road will have signs of silastic patchup's.

What make is the van and do you know if the framework is timber or aluminum.

Can we have photos of the roof and aircon areas.

May be useful.

Re: caravan ceiling leak

Hi @graedeb55

What a shame, we had a similar leak around the air conditioner in our first caravan, when I removed the ceiling, I found two puncture marks that the installers (for previous owner) had left and chucked a bit of sealant in, that sealant didn't work very well unfortunately. It might pay to check all the seals around yours, hopefully it will be an easy fix for you.

Being so young, I would try your local caravan repair places for replacement ply lining, I think that style should be still available to them. You could also contact ForestOne to see if they have it, they don't sell direct to the public but if they have it, you can order through Bunnings Special Orders desk.

Cheers

Re: caravan ceiling leak

Hi @graedeb55,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It's great to see two of our wonderful members Alan and Shelley have already jumped in to assist.

If you can locate the water entry point and cover it with silicone or a suitable waterproofing material, that is likely to be the best course of action. Considering the proximity to the air conditioner, I imagine it could play a part.

Shelley's advice is more or less what I would recommend when it comes time to replace the linings.

Fingers crossed you can locate the leak and have some success with the linings.

If there is anything Bunnings-related we can assist with, please don't hesitate to reach out. The Workshop team are more than happy to help.
