How to fix fence?

Hi

I just had fence done and it was terrible job. I am now left to fix it but unsure what to do.

Concrete used for the post and nails needed which one are they please. I have attached pictures.

I also don't know if to add another rail at the bottom.

Is there way to call you

Re: How to fix fence?

We are cutting a plinth to 50m height x 25m on bottom to cover gap and secure paling so they are not popping out. A lot of the paling are popping out. So that would be 25m thickness plus paling 12m thick..so confusing.  I hope this guy does the right thing tomorrow. Its helpful checking with you. At least i can understand alot more and reliant on other people. Paula

Hello @paula24

If you are attaching a plinth at the bottom, then it would be best to use a 50mm nail so that it anchors onto the plinth.

Please let us know what your handy person plans to do.

Hello @paula24

Yes, the picture went through, and it shows clearly what you're planning to do. Placing a plinth there will definitely hold the timber in place when nailed from the front.

Awesome.

One last question.  Its 38m fence. Do you know aprox how much nails i would need to do whole thing.

Re: How to fix fence?

Hello @paula24

If for example your posts are two meters apart and the number of palings between the two posts is 26 conservatively. But you are only nailing half that amount which are the palings that are on the top. You would need at least 26 nails (two per paling) just for that section. Since you have 38meters of fencing that would be 19 gaps between posts, when multiplied by 13 you get 247 palings to be nailed. Each paling will need at least two nails so you'll need to multiply that by two which will give you 494 nails.

Please note that a great deal of this calculation is dependent on the gap between posts and the number of palings in between them, plus the gap of each paling. For a more accurate nail count, I suggest counting the number of palings that are on top between posts (don't count the ones underneath). You then multiply that amount you've counted by two and you'll get an approximate amount of nails between each post. I hope its not too confusing.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to fix fence?

Hi @paula24,

You'd likely be best to hire a nail gun for the day, as driving that many nails by hand would be a tiresome job and take many days. One box of these Paslode 50 x 2.87mm Amor Galvanised Dekfast Impulse Nail - 1000 Pack would do the job.

Alternatively, if hand nailing, one of these Paslode 50 x 2.8mm 2kg Griplock Galvanised Nails - 680 Packs will do.
