Hello
The side fence (photos 1 to 8 ) seems to be OK apart from the top "repair" I did - wood filler & epoxy. Maybe just needs sanding & repainting? I was thinking I'd get a Ryobi random orbital sander for this. Would appreciate any advice here. How many extra sanding discs would I need? (The stuff on top was supposed to keep the cat in).
It might be better to replace the front fence though. I'd prefer a cost effective option but something reasonably durable - prefer not timber - all aluminium would be good if affordable. Do you stock these or any idea where I'd get a suitable replacement from? I'd prefer the same size as existing. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
Hello @LorenClayton
Thanks for sharing your question about your fence. It appears that Merbau panels were used for your fencing. If you've had the fence for a long time, then it has definitely provided you with good service. Merbau panels are an extremely durable, long-lasting, tannin-rich hardwood. If properly looked after they will last a very long time. The only reason it will degrade, or rot early is if it is not well maintained and left to the elements. Your fence appears to be in fair condition and could be repaired and repainted.
However, if you are after an aluminium replacement I suggest looking at the Protector Fencing Range. For example, there is the ProtectorAl 975 x 1200mm Black Aluminium Flat Top Pool Gate if you are after a gate. The Protector series also has a ProtectorAl 50 x 50 x 1800mm Black Aluminium Pool And Garden In-Ground Fence Post With Cap and can be combined with the ProtectorAl 2400 x 1200mm Black Aluminium Flat Top Pool Fence Panel. There are a number of choices for size, and they can be cut down. I suggest visiting your local store and see what is available.
In regards to the orbital sander, I suggest starting with a standard sanding disc set such as the Ryobi 125mm Orbital Sanding Discs. Please make sure that the sanding disc set you purchase is compatible with your orbital sander.
