How to insure front gate is self closing?

Hello there, I'm wondering if you could advise re: a heavy wooden front gate.  It's about 1000mm wide and apparently about 50 kgs or so heavy - 75mm thick.  I had the posts re-done and now the gate blissfully opens and closes and does not bang shut as everything is now level.  The question I have is that not everyone closes it properly - and so I worry if posties or metre readers or deliveries are coming in when I'm not here - they may not pull the gate closed.  So the question is - what can I use to ensure it self closes if people don't pull it closed.  I see for lighter gates you suggest spring hinges but not sure that would work for a heavy gate. Appreciate your advice.  Many thanks.  Cheers, J

Re: How to insure front gate is self closing?

Hi @justaussie,

That's quite a heavy gate, and I suggest that most self-closers would struggle to return it to its position. However, if it's closing very smoothly, then two Pinnacle 250mm Galvanised Heavy Duty Coil Gate Springs would likely do the trick. You might install just one first and then add another if it's still struggling.

I'd probably locate them as below.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
