How to raise a timber shade house frame off a paved area?

I have a paved area 2m by 2m with concrete sleepers as a border and I also have a wooden framed shadehouse 2m x 1.8m  I don't want to sit the frame on the pavers as the area does get water on it..  I also would need to secure it down. I thought about stirrups but that means i would have to put foundations in. Any suggestions?

Re: How do I raise a timber shade house frame off a paved area

Hi @Student,

Is it possible to grab some photos of the shade house?

The issue with any kind of structure like this is that they are subject to wind loads, which can and will lift and throw things. Anchoring structures like this is vital for you, your family's and your neighbour's safety.

It sounds like your best option, considering the pooling water is going to be stirrups, but as you said, this would require you to pour concrete footings for the stirrups to attach to.

Is there any way to lift a few pavers temporarily, dig out and concrete in some stirrups, attach the shade house to them, then reinstall the pavers?

There might be another way, but it would be difficult to say without seeing it. When you can provide some photos, I should be able to assist further.

Sorry I don't have photos as the shade house has been dismantled. The shade house has only 3 sides made from 70mm x 35mm H3 pine. The frames connect to each other.

Re: How do I raise a timber shade house frame off a paved area

Hi @Student,

How tall is the shade house? Is there any kind of roof? Is it wrapped in something like a shade sail, which is likely to catch wind?

Do you have some photos of the paved area that you could share? What are the dimensions of the pavers? How thick are they?

Is there any way you could utilise the concrete sleepers?

Stirrups that are concreted in still seem like your best option, but with a few more details we might be able to come up with another solution.

Any further information you can provide will help.

Re: How do I raise a timber shade house frame off a paved area

Hi @Student,

I put something together for you that will require minimal effort (no digging) is relatively inexpensive and safe using a row of Besser blocks, Star pickets, Concrete mix and U-bolts. Can you post a photo of the paved area and the paver size and I will come back with more details.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion. I thinking of going with the half stirrups concreted into the ground.
