How to restore timber patio furniture?

Hello,

Has anyone advice on how to restore some second hand patio furniture? The table has been discoloured from having a runner sitting on it and am not sure whether it is worth sanding it all down and varnishing or doing something else to restore it? Any suggestions welcome ?

Re: Patio furniture to restore

Hello @KR1

Thank you for sharing your question about restoring your patio furniture. In this particular instance, I suggest sanding the furniture back to timber to equalize the finish on the surface. You can clearly see the original finish of the table where the runner was located. If you wish to stain and varnish the surface again then it will need to be sanded down. The same preparation condition will be necessary even if you wish to paint the table a different solid colour. The surface and body of the table must be sanded down.

I propose visiting your local store and having a look at the stain and varnish sample board in the paint department. There you'll be able to see the actual finish of the stain and varnish when applied to timber.

I also suggest having a look at this guide: How To Restore Furniture

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
