We built our own outdoor BBQ area using Kaboodle cabinets and a DIY concrete benchtop. The Kaboodle units gave us a strong and good-looking base, and the concrete top added a cool, modern touch. It’s now a great spot for entertaining, with a custom look that we created ourselves on a budget.
Kaboodle cabinets
Concrete
Concrete sealer
White grout
Treated pine for splashback
1. We built out the bbq area using blocks
2. We put in the Kaboodle cabinets
3. We formed up and poured a concrete benchtop
4. We build a splashback and tiled and grouted it
5. Polished the concrete benchtop and sealed
it
6. Put in the BBQ and here is the finished product
Hello @RenovisionAU
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your D.I.Y BBQ area.
What an impressive build, the clean lines, stone paving cover and concrete benchtop just pulls it all together to create a solid looking BBQ area that will provide years of service.
Again, thank you for sharing this fantastic project.
Eric
Would love to know the kitchen cupboard sizes you have used from Kaboodle please?
Did you use anything in particular to
protect the cupboards from the heat of the BBQ?
Thanks ![]()
Hello @hannahTak
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us.
Let me tag @RenovisionAU to make them aware of your query. Looking at the cabinet sizes on the earlier photos, it appears to be:
It appears that the benchtop is custom made from concrete which provides protection to the cabinetry. Let's wait for RenovisionAU to confirm the cabinet sizes. But if you tell us the size of your outdoor kitchen, we can make some cabinet recommendations for you.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Hi Hannah,
We used two 450 base cabinets and two 900 base cabinets, we cut one of the 900 cabinets down to fit the bbq.
we concreted a benchtop to protect the cabinets.
Hope this helps!
Hi Eric,
I'd like to plan something similar to the above project. Total width i have is maximum 2.4m and i'd ideally like a sink on the hard left hand side, BBQ in the middle and a bar fridge on the hard right hand side.
Which Kaboodle cabinets would you recoemmend to achieve this? I'll then do the block work as above to suit, finishing with a formed concrete top bench
