Outdoor shade for a rental property

Outdoor shade for a rental property

I'm looking for Semi Permenant Shade options for my Backyard as I am doing it up and turning it into a toddler play area. The place is a rent I have been here for nearly 3 years. I'm open to any suggestions the landlord is pretty laid back aslong as it's able to be removed whenever we leave. I current have a gazebo up but I can't find one wide enough or long enough. I thought about  shade cloth but I would need to know how to do that and materials I would need. Also I'm on a budget please  help

Re: Outdoor shade for a Rental Property

Hi @CreationsAmbark,

Great to see you make your first post. Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.

How big of an area do you want to cover?

My recommendation would be a cantilever umbrella. They can be very large, moved around according to the time of day, and of course you could take it with you when you move. Unlike a shade sail, it can also be easily folded down on a windy day.

Re: Outdoor shade for a Rental Property

Hello @CreationsAmbark

Thank you for sharing your question about shade sails. If you are after something bigger, I suggest looking at the Coolaroo 5m x 3m Graphite Rectangle Shade Sail. I propose using Ramset 8 x 45mm DynaBolt Plus Hook - 2 Pack in your brick wall to anchor the shade sail while in use. However, for the fourth corner, you'll need to install a 100 x 100mm 2.4m Post H4 Treated Pine Sawn CCA and use concrete for the footing. The only way around it is if you have a tree to tie onto.

I don't recommend anchoring your shade sail to your Colourbond fence as it is not meant to handle anchoring stress. To position the shade precisely where you want it, I recommend using rope to hold the shade sail in place. In extreme weather conditions, I suggest taking the shade sail down so that it does not put undue stress on the wall anchors.

Please keep in mind that the anchors are permanent, but can be cut with a grinder if necessary. In the interest of safety, please make sure to wear safety goggles, gloves and a dust mask when drilling into brick or masonry.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
