Recommended wooden walnut polish / colour

Hi Guys , I made some Garage and Outdoor Tables from left over wood pieces. Mistakenly used woodsash linseed oil putty to fill the gaps to fill the gaps and uneven surface. its nice and plane now,  but not sure what  Polish or varnish I can use, As read the label on the putty that its not recommended for varnish. Hope you can recommend me some less cost solution.

Re: Recommended Wooden Walnut Polish / Colour

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @amarjeetmankoo. It's great to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about what wooden walnut polish to use on your garage tables.

I would recommend using a stain and varnish such as Bondall 250ml Monocel Walnut Stain and Varnish. However, because you used linseed oil putty, it may take weeks if not months for the putty to cure. The putty will probably not absorb the stain, and the varnish will not dry properly on the putty. You could accelerate the curing process by using a heat gun on a low setting, but this will only form a baked hardtop, the inside of the putty will still be soft.

I've spoken to my paint specialist about this situation before and he recommends using an oil-based primer like Dulux 500ML Prepcoat 1Step Oil Based Primer, Sealer & Undercoat White. I recommend using oil-based paint so that it's compatible with the primer.

Let me tag our experienced members @JoeAzza and @Peggers for their recommendations.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Hi Eric , Its really a good idea to dry up the Putty with Heat gun   Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers
