Hi
I am wanting to level block in backyard. Putting 2 sleepers high retaining wall 400 high along fence line.
Do I need to worry about drainage or what type of rocks can I put in between retaing wall and fence. Gap will be aprox 250 to 300
No he hasn't but i will ask him
The reason on the outside is that's where the soil will be built up to level block. Wall between fence and retaining wall wont be any built up of soil maybe scoring for drainage
The retaining wall is getting done only so we can build up soil to the concrete to level block and wont damage fence. I have attached picture.
Hi @paula24,
When I was referring to the outside, I meant the side facing the fence. It makes sense on the side where the soil is being built up.
It would certainly be worth having a conversation with them about drainage. If there is no clearly defined channel for water to drain through, then you may end up with a very soggy, poorly draining backyard when the rains come. I understand you'd like to keep costs low, but adding some agi pipe now, while it is easy to do, would be a lot cheaper than adding it later when problems arise.

Thank you

Hi
If I need aprox 1 cubic meters of scoria granite how many kg bags do I need to buy.
I noticed it comes in 20kg or 16kg bag
Paula
Hi @paula24,
You’ll need about 50 x 20kg bags to make up one cubic metre of scoria, so it might be worth speaking with the Special Orders team at your local store to see if a bulk delivery from our supplier is possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thank you
The area is aprox 38meters long. How much do you think i would need?
Paula
Hi @paula24,
It would be relative to the height and width of the space you are filling, so we would need to know where your retaining wall is going to sit in relation to the fence.
For example, if the space is 300mm wide and 300mm deep by 38 metres, then you would need 3.42 cubic metres.
If you use a cubic metre calculator, there are plenty online, you can just plug your measurements in, and it will tell you.
Jacob
With is aprox 300..very narrow
Paula
Hi @paula24,
In that case, my calculation would be fairly close. You could get 3.5 cubic metres and whatever is left could be used for drainage across the new levelled area.
As Mitchell mentioned, it would be worthwhile enquiring at your local store's Special Orders desk to see if their local suppliers can deliver bulk materials, as this would be much easier than purchasing 175 x 20kg bags.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
Jacob
