I found a paint colour I like by Valspar UK paint, I have researched and found the hex code and possibly pigment amount info... Is this possible to get made in store?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Ash_mach3. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about tinting paint.
We have colour databases for the majority of paints used by suppliers in Australia, but unfortunately, we don’t work off HEX codes. In order to replicate a colour in store, we need to be able to find it in our system and transfer it into one of our paints. The colour Nevada from that manufacturer isn’t listed in our system. Be aware that there is a Dulux colour called Nevada, but that is most likely a colour and name they've developed themselves.
Our team in-store would be happy to help you find the closest possible match from the colours we do have. You can actually see the available colours in store, which makes it easier to choose one you’re happy with.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, cheers. the actual Valspar colour is called 'Sea Dog'
The hex code colour seems to be called Nevada from another source... And I take it you can't colour match off a phone screen... Accurately anyway.
Hi @Ash_mach3,
Unfortunately, you can't colour match from a phone because they emit light, not reflect it. Spectrophotometers are designed to measure reflected light from physical surfaces, not the transmitted or emitted light of a backlit screen.
Your best bet is to head in store and speak with your store's Paint Expert. They will be able to work with you, likely using the colour cards in store, to get a colour as close as possible to yours.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
Jacob
Unfortunately being only available in the UK I can't exactly get a sample or a chip very easily. So it would be a painful process by eye.
Hi @Ash_mach3,
Unfortunately, there's not much else we can do if we can't get a physical representation of the colour. Maybe you could reach out to the company and see if they would mail you a paint chip?
I spoke with Dulux's team, who looked through their charts for me and based on the HEX code have come up with their colour - Buoyant, but it looks bluer than your colour to my eye.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.
Jacob
Yeah I'll have to try and get one. Thanks for talking to Dulux though really appreciate that. It's so close.
Hi @Ash_mach3
A little search by the Hex code gets more results, perhaps this info will help
The hexadecimal color code #63757d is a shade of cyan. In the RGB color model #63757d is composed of 38.82% red, 45.88% green and 49.02% blue. In the HSL color space #63757d has a hue of 198° (degrees), 12% saturation and 44% lightness. This color has an approximate wavelength of 484.87 nm.
So the colour is actually called Sea Dog and Bunnings may be able to find it from that name.
There is also an image that won't upload here, it seems to be in the same colour as you posted, that has numbers in it that may also help so here's the link...

Maybe @JacobZ or @MitchellMc can confirm whether this info will be enough to recreate the colour. I recently went through the same issue and Bunnings eventually were able to help me get the UK colour I was after.
Thank you. As I've said previously in this chain I already stated the colour is called Sea Dog by a paint company call Valspar in the UK and I think the US, but not here. I found all this info too. I did also wonder if they could use the wavelength data...
Hello @Ash_mach3
I've gone up the ladder and spoke to the Dulux Trade Centre and they don't have access to the HEX formulas in the UK. I would go with Mitchell's suggestion and visit one of the stores and have a look at the colour card samples and see if any of them come close to Sea Dog.
