Cleaning and Painting Tips

Hello,

Seeking tips and/or advice on how to rectify the following issues from our end of lease report.

1. Painting. Would there be any prep required or can you just paint over this patch with a brush?

2. Blind Repair

One rung on the Venetian blind snapped where the circle is for the wire to come through (if that makes sense)

Can this be repaired at all!?

3. Window tracks for sliding windows per above image - how to clean properly?

4. Remove tough stains from stovetop

- any ideas beyond baking soda paste?

5. Clean rust circles that are forming in bathroom

6. Any way to remove mould from caulk behind kitchen sink?

Thank you so much in advance!

Re: Cleaning and Painting Tips

Hi @mccarthyelaine7,

Thank you for your questions. Allow me to answer them individually.

  1. Giving the patches a quick sand with a sanding sponge would be worthwhile to remove any sharp edges before painting. Once sanded, go right ahead with painting.

  2. I'm not 100% certain what has happened here. Perhaps some closer photos will help.

  3. I clean my window tracks with a combination of a toothbrush and a vacuum cleaner. The toothbrush will agitate any dirt or material in the track so the vacuum can pick it up. Once you've done a first pass, use warm soapy water and a toothbrush to remove any more stubborn stuff. You can then use paper towels to remove any leftover liquid and material.

  4. You can use Selleys Oven Clean with a scourer to remove most tough stains. If this doesn't work, some photos of the stains will help our members offer their best advice.

  5. Try using CLR 750ml Ready To Use Calcium Lime Rust Remover with a scrubbing brush. Spray it on, wait for two minutes, and then give it a scrub before wiping it off with a soft cloth.

  6. You can use 30 Seconds Mould Off. Apply it, allow it to sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off. If the mould has penetrated deep into the silicone, you can always cut it out and replace it.

Allow me to tag @Dave-1, @Jewelleryrescue and @TheProff to see if they have any other tips they can add.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Re: Cleaning and Painting Tips

Afternoon @mccarthyelaine7

@JacobZ has gone through all my goto steps  I really cant add a lot more.

With the broken slat on the venitian blind, I would contact a blind installer as they may be able to repair it. You might find it will cost more to repair then replace tho.

With rentals remember that "fair use" also means that small damages can happen espeically with wear and tear.

For that paint spot, id be tempted to touch up with a sample pot of the colour and a small paint brush if its not too noticable.
