DIY but stay alive...

DIY but stay alive...

I have been a DIYer my whole, fairly long, life. Like many, I have not been aware of all the risks, and have recently developed airway complaints which have not been satisfactorily diagnosed by specialists (??).

I don't want to put anyone off, but the following article is worth a read to ensure that we don't become too lax about taking precautions as well as buying and using protective gear.  We can diy with minimal risk to our health....

Re: DIY but stay alive...

Thanks for sharing that note of safety @TedBear.

It's always important to keep yourself safe even when doing D.I.Y.. One of the most useful pieces of safety gear is the dust mask. I personally use Bear Disposable Paint Mask With Active Carbon Filter And Valve - 2 Pack. It does double duty as it defends against dust and fumes. Plus it has a relief valve at the front preventing condensation build-up inside the mask.

Again thanks for sharing this timely reminder.

Re: DIY but stay alive...

Thanks for drawing attention to that mask @EricL .  They seem like they'd be a wise investment for me to buy and use.

I wonder if other members of this forum also have items of safety gear that they can recommend from their experience with it?

(I am also still looking for the ultimate safety Off switch for my table saw. My hands and feet are busy handling things, so I may have to make my own bump-bar arrangement for the table. )
