We have a lovely stained glass panelled door, with a large uneven gap at the bottom. I do have a door sweep on the front side of the door, but I would really like to repair the bottom of the door. I was thinking of cutting the bottom so that it is straight and even and then attaching a hardwood strip, then sanding, patching and painting it. Will that work?

Yes, that’s exactly what I’d do too. Trimming the bottom of the door to make it straight and even is a solid approach. Once it’s cut back, you can fix a hardwood strip to the base—just make sure it’s well glued and screwed so it stays put. Then you can sand everything flush, patch any small gaps with filler, and repaint the whole door for a seamless finish. It’ll tidy up the look and help close that uneven gap properly.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
