Hi
My relative tried to hang blinds on steel window frame over brick and broke many drill bits
it finally was hung but fell off shortly after
can I get advice on length of screw and what drill bits to use? Do I need to start with one drill bit and then another once I hit steel and another when I hit masonry?
thanks in advance
Hello @Fiona6
Instead of drilling into the lintel and brick may I suggest another method.
I propose installing a 70 x 35mm Framing MGP10 Untreated Pine 2.4m or similar under the lintel. You can stick it onto the surface of the lintel using Selleys 350g Heavy Duty Liquid Nails and using angle brackets such as Carinya 25 x 25 x 20 x 2mm Galvanised Angle Make-A-Bracket to anchor it to the brick wall. I suggest using Ramset 6 x 38mm Universal Anchor - 6 Pack both for the wood and the brick wall. Once the timber has been installed you can now screw the blind on the timber piece using ordinary screws.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

Thank you for your reply Eric
Good Morning @Fiona6
Is there any chance of some photos of where you are trying to drill? A close up and a further back photo of the area in general would help with coming up with suggestions or workarounds.

Thank you everyone very much for your ideas and for trying Help. In the end the solution was to use a
Series 500 tek screw - solved the problem
Hello @Fiona6
