How to put this flyscreen in and out?

Any hints on how to 'easily' put these screens in and out, we are having a nightmare!

Re: How to put this flyscreen in and out?

Hello @yvonneo

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's great to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about an easy way to put your fly screens in and out.

Thank you for putting up a photo of your fly screen. Looking at the photo it seems that it is held in with leaf springs. Once the fly screen is in place, it becomes difficult to remove because the leaf spring is holding it in very well. One method you can use is to slide a credit card or other thin plastic down between the window frame and the leaf spring. Once the leaf is down it should be easy to slide the mozzie frame towards you.

You can use the same method when putting it back in. You first put one side of the mozzie frame in first and place the credit card on the leaf spring on the other side before pushing the mozzie frame into the window frame. If the gap between the window and mozzie frame is really small you can also use a cake icing spatula.

If you need more advice or information, please let us know.

Thanks Eric

A credit card would definitely snap. Will try the cake spatula but there are 4 on each frame, a crazy system, would change the whole lot if I could afford it!

Re: How to put this flyscreen in and out?

It sounds like something is going a bit wrong, @yvonneo. It should be a reasonably straightforward process to remove the flyscreen.

When the springs on one side of the flyscreen are compressed against the window's frame, the other sides should be free of the frame, and the flyscreen should easily swing-out. Installing should be the opposite. Insert the screen on one side and compress the springs against the frame. The other sides springs should now clear the frame, and the screen should go into position. If when you compress the springs on one side, the other sides are still making contact or not clearing the frame, it sounds like the installation wasn't particularly great or the leaf springs have been bent out.

You could drill the springs pop-rivet out and bend them, so their angle is not so aggressive before re-installing them. This will reduce their grip on the frame and likely make your life easier. You might be able to slip a thin screwdriver under the spring right next to the pop-rivet to use as a fulcrum. This could allow you to bend the spring in situ. A couple of Rolltrak Black Flyscreen Lift Tabs installed on each screen would also assist the installation and removal process. Alternatively, you might like to remove the spring system altogether and revert to the traditional fly screen clips.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell you have saved our sanity! We removed the clips on one side and are now able to remove and replace the screen easily. A little rattle but we can work with that. Thanks again.

Great work @yvonneo!

To get rid of that little rattle, you could stick this Raven 5m Grey RP14 Adhesive Foam Door And Window Seal down the side of the window frame that corresponds with the clips you removed.

I'm pleased you solved the issue.
