Hi all. I was hoping someone may be able to help advice what wax sticks colours may be suitable for reducing the appearance of these scratches. I am aware it won’t be perfect, the scratches are deep and have other scratches on the floorboards so would eventually probably re sand but looking for a short term fix just to help minimise them. Photos attached as well as the floorboards from a distance.
So far I have just added oil to the floorboards and nothing else.
thanks,
Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth (@eagboola),
Because the scratches run across multiple boards with varying colours, it would be hard to select one colour that would work across everything.
Your best bet might be to apply a trial-and-error approach to the repair by grabbing a Gilly's Assorted Beeswax Filler Sticks - 6 Pack. This pack contains 6 different filler sticks that cover most colours that would be expected in timber.
You could use a combination of the closest colours to blend the scratches in as well as you can.
Let me know what you think, and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Hi Jacob,
Thanks yes I was able honking of using the waxstix and wanted to maybe try mixing the colours but wanted to see if there was any colour recommendations to try based on the images or is it just more trial and error?
Hello @eagboola
It will have to be more trial and error on your part to get the right combination. As I'm sure you are aware, photos on mobile phones can't be used as a colour reference. Another possible filler you can use is Gilly's 200ml Clear Cabinet Makers Wax. It has a neutral finish and might be able to disguise the scratches on your timber floor.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
