How to replace LED downlights?

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if LED downlights are hardwired into the roof electrics, or do they come with a plug to connect to a socket? I ask because, looking through Bunnings downlighting on-line, I noticed an Arlec with a plug on the end. The downlight in my bathroom seems to have failed - it began flickering; now it's just got a pale glow. It's a 'Jin Hang' downlight. Never having encountered this sort of downlight before, I thought perhaps it would have a removable bulb; so I freed it from the ceiling hole. It came away with its cable that disappeared up past what looked like a tube of fire retardant; so I couldn't see what it was connected to. Fortunately, the manhole is close to that light, so I may be able to see for myself. Just thought I'd ask the experts first. Thank you.

Re: LED Downlights

Hello @Orlando

The only way to tell If the downlight has a plug-in feature would be to see it in your ceiling cavity. Some units have long cables while others don't, some will have it printed on the back of the casing saying that it has a plug-in feature. Just a friendly reminder that any electrical work must be carried out by a registered electrician for safety and compliance.

If you wish to upgrade to a plug-in downlight for easier maintenance in the future, you can ask your sparky to install a plug in the ceiling where you can just plug your new modern downlight in.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
