What flooring should I choose?

What flooring should I choose?

My apartment recently got flooded by a faulty tap and my Oak timber floating floors are now all buckled and have to be replaced. I just got a quote to have new flooring laid and the installer recommended I buy the flooring myself from Bunnings but I am a little overwhelmed.

Could you please recommend something similar to what I currently have?

Would this be a good choice? - https://www.bunnings.com.au/floor-select-8mm-2-69sqm-gessami-oak-water-resistant-laminate-flooring_p...

Could you also please explain the term laminate flooring? I see there's a laminate flooring category under timber on the Bunnings website but I thought laminate means artificial (like vinyl)?

Thanks.

Re: What flooring should I choose?

Hello @Floodgirl

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about what flooring you should choose to replace your water-damaged ones.

If you are looking for laminate flooring that's 100 percent waterproof. I suggest using HanWood Home 5mm 2.64sqm Capella Oak Hybrid Waterproof Flooring. It is made of inorganic materials and is totally waterproof. A general definition of laminate flooring is a combination of photo/laminate sheeting and timber backing glued and sandwiched together to form an artificial floorboard. Hybrid laminate flooring uses an inorganic material instead of wood which makes it waterproof.

Standard laminate flooring will resist spills but must be wiped dry immediately. You can't leave the spill overnight, otherwise, it will ruin the floor. The Floor Select 8mm 2.69sqm Gessami Oak Water Resistant Laminate Flooring is still laminate flooring with a timber backing but is water-resistant. It has a moisture guard core that protects it from water for up to 48 hours. Even if you see the spill the following day, your floor is safe. Hybrid flooring has the look and feel of laminate flooring and is 100 percent waterproof.

If you're still having difficulty choosing, I suggest speaking to your local store's flooring specialist. They will be more than happy to tell you the features and benefits of each flooring panel.

Re: What flooring should I choose?

Thank you Eric.

OK, so a laminate floor can still also be a timber floor, but there are also laminate floors which are totally artificial products.

We would like to get hands-on to see some boards. Could you also please tell me if every Bunnings store has a flooring specialist and is there always one available or do I need to book an appointment?

Re: What flooring should I choose?

Hi @Floodgirl

Every store has at least one flooring specialist. I recommend giving your local store a call and booking an appointment. This will guarantee that the flooring specialist will put aside some time for your meet-up. It sounds like an excellent remodeling project. Any updates you can provide while it's being repaired would be much appreciated.

If you need more advice or information, please let us know.

Re: What flooring should I choose?

Hi Floodgirl

I don't know if it helps, but I just fit a hybrid floor (all vinyl with a built in underlay) in my home office that will go throughout the house. I installed it on my own and it came out quite well- I didn't get mine from Bunnings but its basically the same stuff. I would definitely recommend it for high traffic and wet areas, its waterproof.

Hi @seannami

Thank you so much for that recommendation. Let me tag @Floodgirl to make sure they are made aware of your suggestion. Investing in Hybrid flooring is truly worth it as you can have any type of spill mishap and not worry about the floor.
