I had to Google 'child gates' to see what hardware is missing from your wall.
But nearly every image shows a compression style of fitting.
Even Bunnings...

I'm not wanting to deter you from fixing the above but would it be worthwhile repairing the holes and going with the Bunnings gate?

Edit - then again, how big is your dog?
I’m not going to put another gate in the same spot just I just would like to repair the holes I got another gate from Bunnings today to put a little further away from that spot what would I need to repair that big hole that was once a small screw hole now just a big one that looks like a smile
